“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.” – Joel A. Barker
Nothing is done if nobody takes the first step. It’s one thing to be aware of an issue, but it takes a certain measure of courage and confidence to stand up against it. In other words, awareness is only the start to living a conscious lifestyle. What can we hope to achieve if we just bottle our thoughts up in our heads and never bring our newfound passion and purpose to fruition? In short, nothing.
As scary as it might be, taking a stand for what we believe in is the only way to fix what needs to be fixed, and if everyone allowed their most benevolent ideas to physically manifest themselves through action, we would live in a perfect world. Sadly, this isn’t the case, but that doesn’t mean that every action we take together for a better cause is meaningless, like so many people have been told over and over again. Take for example the effect that veganism has had on our planet. The average vegan alone saves about 200 animals a year, yet we are constantly told that our actions mean nothing because animals are going to be slaughtered regardless. Since when did saving 200 animals a year become “nothing”? Imagine how many animals an Animal Advocate could save!
QUICK SIDENOTE: I don’t want to make it seem like I’m trying to assume that every cause one fights for is a worthy and “good” cause, but I’m also not going to argue about subjectivity. Most people can discern right from wrong when given two scenarios.
This is all just another way of me trying to say, “ACTION IS IMPORTANT!” People need to be direct and upfront about the change they want, especially when another being’s life is at stake. This doesn’t mean there isn’t a right way to approach bringing about change (which I will talk about in the next post). It only means that we need to actively pursue our good, righteous cause until that cause is seen through to the end.
The bottom line is that we can’t allow others to live in ignorance when we have been given the gift of awareness to share with everyone. It is our responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless, and anything less is cheating ourselves and our own cause. Action brings change, and one day, when our purpose is fulfilled and we have changed the world, we are going to look back and say, “I am so glad I took that first step.”
